More of a Support Team rather than Chaperones, volunteers who chaperone home games and competitions handle the details so that the Band and Guard can concentrate on their performance. At each home games (typically a 3-4 hour time commitment) we:
set up stadium seat covers
bring out uniform racks/hats
direct traffic during the march into stadium
help students get into jackets immediately before show
sit with students during game, and clean up afterward.
The Marching Panthers perform at 3-4 competitions a season, including one overnight trip at which a chaperone must commit to both days. Depending on where the competition is being held indicates how long a time commitment, but typically it is an all-day event. Past competition site include: JMU, the Naval Academy, Towson University, Woodgrove HS, and Virginia Beach. Duties include:
travel with the band to the site
bring and handing out water bottles
lead groups of students to different parts of the site
assist the band with their uniforms and hats as needed
encourage them every step of the way
You will spend more time with your student and their friends than you thought you would in high school. The days can be long, but the memories of watching your child march into Panther Stadium for the first time in uniform, or being the last one to wish them good luck as they “take the field in competition” is indescribable.
